TREADLES FOR ANTIQUE PRINTING PRESSES
HERN IRON WORKS treadles are close copies of original equipment, and attach and work in the same fashion. Our treadles are made of solid cast iron like the originals. Be sure your press has an offset or crank in the main shaft to accommodate a treadle before ordering.
Treadle for Old Series
8x12 inch C&P
All our treadles are drilled on jigs at the factory, but some fitting may be required on your press due to production variations by the press manufacturer. Be sure to turn your press over at least a dozen times slowly by hand with the treadle attached, before using the treadle the first time, to check for proper clearances.
Treadle for New Style C&P Hooks are included with C&P treadles at the listed price. The C&P 8x12 Old Series treadle requires a hinge pin. If your press does not have this we can supply it for $10 extra.
Pearl treadles are castings only, and may require fitting, drilling, and tapping to suit your application.

Shooting Stick Shooting sticks are used to tighten wooden quions, commonly found on traditional hand presses. The Hern shooting stick is a pattern at least 150 years old, made of solid cast iron. It is fully functional and an authentic museum quality accessory for the hand press. Many shooting sticks today are also used as paperweights, conversation pieces, and gifts for printers.
